Today’s fine distinction is about espresso! Something I almost never drink, lol.

It’s a weird one. I don’t mind the taste of coffee. I quite get it, in fact, especially coffee and milk or cream. What a tasty way to start your day, and piping hot, too! But…I don’t know. I’ve just always resisted getting into it. I think I don’t want to become addicted. Which caffeine will definitely do. I don’t know. I’ve just never been a coffee guy.

But back to our distinctions: Latte vs Flat White vs Cappucino vs Cortado.

So…lattes are the largest cup size and they have the most milk to blend in with the espresso shot.

Cortados are the smallest cup size and contain the smallest amount of milk.

Apparently, things get interesting with the difference between Flat Whites and Cappucinos, which can come in difference sized cups or the same exact size cup, depending on the coffee house. The difference lies in how the milk is used.

A cappucino will “stretch” or aerate the milk much more than a flat white. The result is that the milk blends less with the espresso shot, making the drink taste stronger, and the milk taste fluffier and dryer (especially if the barista is not doing micro foam and instead doing older-style dry foam…another fine distinction that lies in the placement of the steam wand).

Fun stuff 🙂

Had a fun time today at the little writers’ conference the county library put on. Met some interesting people. Learned some interesting things. Took a nap. Still tired, but not exhausted, so that’s good. Back at it tomorrow!

night night.
