Today’s fine distinction is “Typeface” versus “Font.” This is a GOOD one!

Typeface refers to a typographical design system. Helvetica for example.

Font refers to one of a typefaces many weights (heavy, medium, thin, etc.) or styles (roman, italic, condensed, etc.). Helvetica Condensed, for example.

So…when we common people say “font,” we actually mean “typeface.” That’s the proper name for the whole family of fonts. That said, the book points out that, outside of the typography world, this is such a common mistake that it’s probably not even worth fighting for. Still…fun to know. Comic Sans is the worst typeface ever created, not font.

A…better day outlining today? Yes. Not exactly a blockbuster in terms of output, but I made some decisions. That kind of clarity is gold. It made me feel pretty good. I do need to be more diligent about my writing time in the evening, however. Sitting here in bed, I kinda just realized that. That’s where resistance is doing a number on me. Using when the sun is going down to knock me off my spot. Need to not let that happen. It’s hard, knowing the pups need walkos, but that just means I have to make sure I’m starting my evening writing at 4. Pretty soon, the time change will come, and I’ll just walk the dogs before I do my writing. That will help.

Anyway, like is not ALL about writing. Work was good today. Liz had a wild near-death encounter with a car over in Hollywood today. She’s fine, but she very nearly wasn’t. A tree blocked the out-of-control car. Glad she’s safe.

Shakespeare reading was good. I can follow this entire play, now. The method works! It’s laborious, that’s for damn sure. Takes forever. It’ll be a year soon and I’ll have read ten plays. That’s it! Less than one a month. I can do better than that, for sure, and I intend to…but still. It’s a big project. I thought I could do a play a week, lol. Not so. Not with genuine understanding of what I was reading. And that’s the entire point of this exercise. If I can’t truly understand Shakespeare’s writing, his rhetoric, his literary devices, the construction of his verses…then I can’t apply it to my own writing. So. We take our time. If it takes me two more years to do this, it will have been worth it.

We got our patio door painted. It was fading already! Only three years old and the paint was crumbling under the sun. Apparently we weren’t the only ones with the issue. The painter (from the door/window company) actually showed me pictures of someone else’s door that looked EXACTLY the same. Worse, even. The city came, too, to clean up the fallen branches of our dead tree. They gave me tips on how to get the city out to come and cut it down, too. I’m going to follow them. Thing needs to go, like, yesterday.

Oh, and then in the evening, I got to watch the Warriors beat the Lakers. If we can stay healthy, and that is such a massive, MASSIVE “if” with how freaking old we are…we can go all the way. I hope they pull it off. It would be incredible. Just incredible. Steph is incredible.

Night night.
