They make the Hawaiian islands look so much closer to each other than they actually are. Like, I’m looking at a wall-mounted wooden sculpture of the islands right now, Big Island down at the bottom right, rising up and to the left all the way out to Kauai…and looking at it, based on the size of each wooden island shape, you’d think the islands were a few miles away from each other. Dawg…they are each 70-100 MILES APART. The Big Island, the actual island of Hawaii and the island we are currently on, is 90 miles from Maui at their closest bits. Crazy, huh? For context, when you look out at the ocean, the horizon is only 3 miles into the distance.
Long long day. Whew. We splurged and flew first class. It wasn’t that expensive. Not cheap, either, for sure, but for whatever reason, this particular flight was far more affordable for such an extravagance than I think I’ve ever seen before. We did it because Cat would want us to. I’ve never flown first class. It was great. Food, leg room—only thing was that I didn’t figure out how to lean my seat back until we were almost landing. Sigh. I had a nap interrupted a few times, three times I think, by my head dropping because I wasn’t leaned back far enough. Thought my seat couldn’t move. It could, I just had to push harder. Oh well. It was still worth it. And we can pinch pennies for a while when we get home.
It’s great to see JJ. Great to see Lin. And great to be in this air, seeing this sunset and those turquoise waves. Great to eat this incredible poke.
And now…I’m absolutely exhausted. I might not get out of bed tomorrow. We’ll see.
Night night.
