Fighting a bit of the overwhelm today. Work is very hectic at the moment. Big project coming and the schedule for that is shifting. Sigh. But, it’ll be fine in the end. I hit a wall on the writing today, but that’s okay. Still got a lot done. Almost ten pages. I’ll aim for another fifteen tomorrow and be in fine shape. The writing has been good, I will say that. A good scene today between two characters who care a lot about each other. I wouldn’t say it’s all the way there yet, which is one reason I hit the wall, but I’ll get there. Tomorrow morning, perhaps.

I watched Hamnet. It was very poignant, but it also a bit…loose. Meandering. Reliant too much on well-crafted individual moments that didn’t tie together enough in the end to spell out greatness. Whose story was it, for example? The film didn’t seem to know. Which of the myriad images it presented were we supposed to latch onto and hold until that final moment? Holding hands? If so, where was that before? I don’t know.

It was good. I liked it well enough. But it wasn’t great. I don’t think any of the films I’ve seen so far this award season have been “great.” Which is okay. “Great” is a rare thing. I think the last great movie I saw was Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Not all the way back when it first came out, lol, not saying that; I watched it just a few months ago. But yeah. That movie was astounding.

Night night.
