So…Marty Supreme is really good. Definitely one of the best movies of the year and I think Timothee is very very good in it. It’s…in the end? I think the best Safdi movie I’ve seen? It had much more heart than I was expecting, even from the first half-plus of the movie. And some of the situations—particularly the bath tub—came very close to, if not actually, jumping the shark. But that’s the game the Safdis* play, you know? It’s a fun game. I spent the first half-ish of the movie loathing Marty. Like, loathing him in a way that made me feel like the movie didn’t know I’d hate him that much. But by the end? I kinda loved the guy. I was rooting for him. Less that he learned a lesson or two and more that he just showed under real pressure who he really was, and he wasn’t all bad in the end.
It’s a good movie. I’d recommend it. Maybe a little too saccharine in the end? But at least it made me like the guy by the time we got there.
*and yes, I know it was just Josh this time around but come on – watch Uncut Gems and this movie and tell me they’re not playing the exact same game
Therapy today. In person for the first time in so long. It was great. Nap. Wrote my pages in the morning. Did my Shakespeare reading. A good day.
Night night.
