It was our good friend Cat’s birthday tonight…well, good friend for me. She’s practically Liz’s adopted sister. Not even “practically”…she IS Liz’s adopted sister.

For her birthday, they rented a blow-up screen for their back yard, set up concessions with popcorn and candy…and put on Star Wars for all the kids to watch. And adults. Mostly the adults, actually 😛 It was SO MUCH FUN. We didn’t actually stay for the whole movie since we’d left the pups at home for the entire day already, but we stayed up until the death star destroys Alderaan.

I realized I haven’t seen the original Star Wars movies in, like, 10 years. They were on heavy rotation when I was a kid and a teenager. It’s so good! The first one. So much fun. Instantly adventurous and intriguing and bold and just really, really cool. It’s a world you want to live in because it’s so cool.

And it was so nice out. It had been hot as motherfucking balls during the day, which is when Liz and I were helping set up and cook and clean and entertain the kids…but once the sun went down? Man…it was perfection. If I ever have a back yard whilst living down here in SoCal, I am *definitely* getting one of those blow-up screens and doing movie nights during the summers. It was *perfect*. It never ever got that warm up in Humboldt growing up, nor would there ever have been the absence of wind to knock everything down like there is here in LA. I just love it at night, it’s so magical.

That was pretty much our whole day. I slept in this morning, waaaaaay longer than I’d anticipated, but I was out solid the whole time. I guess I needed it 😛 I’d already eaten breakfast and walked the pups. I could see that being a pretty normal sleep schedule for me some day, if I ever get to write full-time for a living. Get up, take care of the pups and eat, then go back to bed and sleep for a few hours…not really start my day in full until the afternoon and work into the evening. Right now, I either write at the very beginning of my day, or at the very end of it, but that’s really only because I *have* to with my editing work. Finding a rhyhtm with that is so important, I can’t let stopping for a writing session break that up.

Speaking of editing, that’s what tomorrow will be. As planned on the original month. I don’t *think* there are any extracirriculars for the rest of the month, which is nice in that I should be able to put my head down and get shit done. I’ve lost a couple work days this month, but it’s not the end of the world as long as I can finish strong. Writing, too. Pump out the rest o this Icarus draft one hour ata  time, and get myself an outline for the next novel.

That reminds me, I have a couple former teachers of mine that I thought of the other day and I’d like to send them the Starstuff manuscript to get their feedback.

Cooper is outside the bedroom right now walking around…I may have to go see what he’s up to here in a second. Usually that means he needs to go potty. I’m gonna go see.

See you kids tomorrow!
