So, today I spent the day showing some out-of-towners around the splendor of LA…most specifically Burbank 😛

Scott’s friends from when he did an education abroad program several years ago all the way from TANZANIA were in town here in LA, and since Addie had business, he came along so he could see them and hang out. Which is why he was in town on Sunday and Liz and I had dinner with them. Well, we’d arranged to have them see a taping, get the real Hollywood experience, you know, and so we did Conan and it was so much fun! And very well-run.

We showed up in the morning to get checked in, which could have been a disaster were it not for some late-MVP heroics from the Ho which got us the extra ticket that we needed (there was one extra person in the travel group that we weren’t aware of until late in the game)…so the deal with this show is that they start checking people in for the show on a first-come first-serve basis at 12:30 and then you’re free to go roam and do something else until they line everyone up based on their check-in at 3:30, an hour before show time. SO, if you show up early and get in line around 11:30 or so and wait for the hour for them to start checking people in, you can score amazing seats and be one of the first groups into the studio seating.

So, that’s what we did, and then we went off to try and see if there was anywhere in Burbank that might sell iPhones or Beats headphones used…which there wasn’t, but we did get to show them Fry’s Electronics – which the one in Burbank is a lot of fun because the theme of that store is “alien invasion” and there are lots of cool 50s-style props everywhere – and then we went back down the street and ate lunch at Porto’s, which everyone seemed to really love. I friggin love Porto’s. Every chance I get to take someone there, I do.

Then it was time to be back at the studio lot for the taping, and we showed up literally JUST in time to step into our place in line and then walk right into the studio. Conan’s actual stage is right in the middle of the Warner Bros. lot, so we got to walk through quite a bit of it, which was fun. Very “Hollywood” thing to do. And then the taping was super fun, and super quick. They move a real speed, so they time out their commercial breaks and everything and just keep it moving. David Cross was one of the guests, which was really cool. Love him so much.

Then, once the taping was done, it was back to Pasadena to meet up with Addie and get ready to go out to dinner, which Liz was able to make it out for as well. We ate at a taco joint that was hit and miss. My steak tacos Abodabo were freaking delicious, but my other taco wasn’t so good. But, hey, what can you do, you know? It was food and I was hungry.

Now, it’s finally back home and I am freaking wiped out. Very full day. And so glad I got to meet Francis, Kiaro and Kevo (poor Kevo was dealing with some tummy problems, as traveling does to us all sometimes, unfortunately). They were so nice, very talkative, cool to converse with and compare and ask about cultural stuff. I probably asked way too many questions, but they were very accommodating. We all squeezed into my little car all day, and they were champs about it. Never complained. Good thing my AC is working well in there because it was HOT today. 95.

Blech.

Anywho, it’s time now for bed. Seeing Conan in person was awesome. Getting to meet and know the boys was awesome. Hanging out with my brother was awesome, and Addie and Liz too for dinner. It was just a really fun, exhausting day.

Tomorrow…work…

Night, bitches.
