I’m at a point right now where I don’t have enough time…it seems every day. There’s just not enough time in the day. And, believe it or not, that’s a wonderful thing. Obviously not the best possible scenario, given that I seem to always leave so much un-done at the end of the day and I have almost zero downtime…but it’s so far superior to having too much time, I can’t even tell you.

I’ll never forget this quote from Chris Rock, one of his standup specials in the late 90s, early aughts when he was on top of his game…it was something to the effect of: the difference between a career and a job is that, in a JOB that clock cannot possibly move fast enough – time just crawls by…in a CAREER, you never have enough time – it flies by.

I can honestly say that I haven’t been in the “job” position for two or three years now. At least. Probably ever since I left my restaurant job. That is…amazing. Wonderful. I’m very, very grateful for that.

Josh and I podcasted this evening. We’re a little over a month away from FINISHING the original series. This third season is definitely rough…they do some fun stuff, they really do…but we’re in this lull right now where the episodes just really aren’t very good. And I don’t spoil anything for Josh, but the show does go out on kind of a whimper instead of a bang. It’s a testament, really, to just how unique and original of a concept and a show it was to see how it exploded and flourished a decade later and beyond.

I would say that you could name the top 10 episodes of the original series…and that would really be about it for the series in terms of actually good episodes. There are plenty more that are entertaining…but good? Maybe 10. I mean, compare that to the rest of the shows where there are dozens of excellent episodes. Truly excellent.

There’s definitely something to be said for the aesthetic of the show, though. It’s hypnotic, especially when you watch so many episodes in quick succession; the music, the tone and timbre of the recorded dialogue, the sound effects, the voices of the actors, the colors of the sets and costumes…it does kind of draw you into a trance. Or, it does for me, at least.

Then, we’re planning to tackle the animated series, which in terms of GOOD television is also an overall disappointment. It’s a kid’s show, a Saturday morning cartoon. But, that will go quickly, especially if we’re able to do four of them in a row like I have planned. They’re only like 20 minutes long each. THEN…the movies. The Trek that wowed me when I was a kid on a big scale. Sure, TNG had hooked me…but those movies WOWED me. I think the same thing will happen to Josh, and I can’t wait to be there to see it.

That’s all I got for yous tonight. Lots for me to think about for tomorrow.

Good night.

Artwork tonight by Moebius. Friggin love that guy. He’s so imaginative and weird.
