So, we’re in Sonoma.

I didn’t think I’d been here before ever, but it turns out I totally have been, because across the street is Train Town! I definitely remember that shit! It’s this yellow station and if I remember correctly, there are little trains in there that go around and around.

I was obsessed with trains when I was a youngster. I wanted to drive them for a living. I also loved LITTLE trains, because, you know, duh, they’re kid-sized. As it happened, there was this elderly gentleman that lived up the road from me when we were living on Quail Valley road (which was in between Eureka and Arcata) and he was building his own tiny train track around his house!

Oh, how I wanted to help that man build his train. It was about 3/4 done as I remember, and he had a whole shed/shop where he could pull his engines and cars into and work on them. I think he had two engines, both old steam powered ones that you had to stoke with coal and everything to get them running. The downer part of this amazing story is that I never did get to work on those little engines and lay those tracks because he had cancer, and though I don’t believe he passed away, his treatment left him unable to work on his train project. So, yeah…super glad I just shared that story.

Anywho, back in the land of wonderful times, we checked into our hotel and we loving our King-sized bed. We also just figured out that we can open up our windows, so we did that and left the shutters just open enough to let in the breeze. It’s magic. Sonoma is hot during the daytime, like mid-90s, but it’s down to mid-50s now at night which is…well, magical.

What was also magical was dinner. We were treated to a dinner by Liz A’s fiancée and his work buddies that was absolutely out of control delicious. They’re all professional chefs, dinner was so. Freaking. Good. My lord. It was a putanesca-inspired pasta with some fresh caught fish, and we rounded it out with lots of wine, conversation, and some peach/apricot pie with vanilla bean ice cream in the end. OUT OF CONTROL. Liz, if you read this entry tonight, THANK YOU for inviting us. ‘Twas wonderful.

We also learned the difference between castration and immasculation. So, there’s also that. And all worked on our Bostonian accents.

That’s all for tonight. It’s almost 2 in the AM.

Tomorrow…pool day. Huzzah!
