So, I wrote 3,000 words today. It was one long sequence of the book that I’d already written…but here we are. It’s better now. MUCH better. Like, it has my neurons firing and exploding, ‘better.’

I’m sure frustration days will pop up again a few times over the next couple months…but overall, I am feeling much better about what my role is as a professional author and how that relates to ‘output.’ Which is to say:

I just need to do the work.

As long as I put in the time and I do the work, I really can let go of any ideas of being ‘behind.’ Sometimes–oftentimes–things take much longer than expected. That is the natural way of things. You never really know how long something is going to take until you actually get in there and do it. So, as long as I’m plopping down and doing good, relaxed, focused work, I’m in good shape.

That was today in a nutshell.

I wanted to get 10,000 words written. I wanted to finish this entire storyline by the time we left for Maui.

I sat down today, and I worked all day and into the nighttime, all the hours I could possibly have worked…and I wrote 3,000 words. And I feel good about that. I put in my time. I will get faster, sure, and certain parts of the story will move faster all on their own. Right now, I just need to keep my headspace positive and focused.

Get up. Write. Take a break. Write. Have lunch. Write. Nap. Write. Walk pups. Dinner. Write. Break. Write. Watch TV with the Ho.

Tonight we watched the season 2 premier of Westworld, and I have to say…I’m digging it. Liz and I were veeerrryyyyy up and down on the first season of this show. There were certainly enough bits here and there for us to actually finish watching the whole first season and look forward to watching the second…but it was not the best show for us. Not nearly to level most others seemed to like it.

This season, on the other hand, seems like FUN. We have a framing device! “How did we get here?” We have another hidden plan! And another game for the man in black. I’m intrigued. So much of the first season problems I had was that the story being told seemed to muddy. It was hard to grab onto one particular thing. They’ve fixed that in season 2. We have a mission.

I dig it.

Time for bed. More writing tomorrow! I’m going to try for 4,000 words 🙂
