Woof.

I spent the entire day today taking care of the building. It’s always more work when we have a vacancy to fill, and this time, we have TWO. One was an inch away from being filled today, and in the end, they backed out. It happens all the time 😛 Hopefully, though, our other one will be filled tomorrow. We. Shall. See.

Coco is snuggled right up against me right now, with her head right up by my forearm as I type this. Coops is curled up at my feet. He’s always liked to sleep down at the foot of the bed like that. He uses my feet and my legs as bumpers. Sweet boy.

I did write though today! Took me two solid hours to get an hours’ worth of work in, which isn’t ideal, but shit…I’ll take it. Jumping back in only one full day away from the keyboard? Hell yes. It felt like forever, and I suppose that’s the point of “write every day”…it makes it feel super weird when you don’t write.

This novella…it’s going to be good. I can feel it in my bones. I think I can, anyway. It could just be that “shiny new object” syndrome, but whatever it is, I don’t care. It’s working 😛 I had a really fun time outlining today and brainstorming.

You know…it’s taken me a while to figure out that outlining is not the same thing as brainstorming? One definitely feeds into the other, but they’re not actually the same thing. Brainstorming is pure inspiration. It’s images and scenes, and bits of dialogue, and it’s themes, and questions. Outlining is order. It’s taking inspiration and fitting into a train of dominoes, one falling into the next into the next into the next until the story has run from beginning to end.

I’m not sure if I ever really gave that thought before…but, yeah. They are totally different exercises or tasks, and they use very different parts of the brain. For the most part. There is definitely some crossover.

Liz and I watched Tag tonight, a movie we were kinda excited to see when we saw trailers for it, but now in hindsight, seeing it in theaters would have been disappointing. It definitely wasn’t terrible, but it still should have been much better.

Anyway…time for bed. I need to get a chapter or two done tomorrow for the novella before I dive back into Escape. The readers…they are waiting.

Night!
