Today/tonight was the second wedding of 2019 for the Ho-Heinichen household.

2019 is the year of wedding, man, I tell you. By the time we go to our last one this fall, it will have been 6 weddings in just slightly over 12 months. SIX. Good thing we have fun at weddings, huh? 😛

Today, it was Steven and Thida’s day. Love those two. Seriously. So much. They’re the ones we dog-sat Tommen for a few weeks ago. So glad they’re getting hitched. BEEN hitched. It’s done now.

So, Thidamony’s family is Cambodian, which meant we got to see (and take part in very briefly) a Khmer wedding ceremony and it was so cool! Very chill! They usually take place over the course of a full day, but the ceremony is very fluid with lots of bouts of just kind of hanging out and getting to spend time with the couple in turns.

Thida and Steven didn’t do the whole-day thing; it was abbreviated into a couple hours and then a traditionally-western banquet with a DJ, dancing etc, but it was still really awesome. They had no less than five clothing changes…I think that was the total by the end. But, my favorite part was either when we got to throw palm seeds, rose petals and rice on them, OR when we got to come in with the groom’s procession to bring a bunch of gifts on gold and silver platters to present to Thida’s family. We brought in bananas 🤓

So fun.

These last two weddings, the Indian one with Joe and Madhuri, and the Cambodian one with Thida and Steven…so, so fun. I truly love learning about the rituals and the traditions, and the clothing and music and food is all so amazing. Really, really wonderful stuff.

Early in the day we got to see Lin and his brother Ben and his wife Marge for breakfast at a place nearby. It was delicious but busy. Then we went over some audition stuff Liz has for Monday, and then I took a quick snooze before it was wedding time.

Tired. Happy we came up. Tomorrow: Winchester Mystery house 🙂
