Day two of Ira’s mind-explosion tour 2019.

The Story Grid Editor Certification Training continues. I’m loving every minute of it, except for being away from Liz and the pups. And no, that’s not because I know she’ll read that (hi, Bear 😘)…it’s true. I miss thems.

What we went over today is so much in the weeds of storytelling and craft that it’s kind of impossible to relate without writing an entire post on the terminology and all the elements leading up to it…but essentially my biggest takeaways from today are that I’m starting to wrap my head around turning points in a scene, and how they relate to character and crisis through the value being shifted in the scene.

See? Weeds. But that stuff right there, knowing how a scene changes the plot and character, is *the* key to breaking down a story, and then evaluating what is and isn’t working. ⬅️ And that is the magic sauce.

Identify what’s not working, and offer solutions to fix it.

It’s what I need with my own novel.

That’s all for tonight, except to say that the other wonderful thing about being here is meeting all the fellow story-obsessives (some writers, some not). They’re so smart, so friendly and engaging. It’s amazing. I’m trying to meet as many as I can.

Good night 🙂
