Feeling ready for this new year. Truly.
I had a great day today. A *great* day. My bike, you guys, it’s dope. I love it. So much. I haven’t had a bicycle since 2001, when it got stolen from my campus apartment at HSU the very first month I moved there. 20 years.
I used to ride my bike everywhere. That summer, I rode my bike to work and back and everywhere else I went. I think I even had a car, but I liked riding my bike. It saved me gas. And then someone swiped it (because I stupidly tried to lock it up in the stairwell outside my apartment…even at the time, I was like “well, shit…I deserved that”) and I haven’t had a bike since.
I rode the bike path that runs alongside the Orange Line, which is a bus route that runs east to west across the whole valley, I think? I didn’t ride much. 6 miles. On flat pavement. And still, my legs were feeling it. They’re mush right now, hence getting a bike! I loved it, though! There’s trees along the path! And it’s paved, with lanes. And you get to see parts of the city you wouldn’t otherwise, kind of like a rail line.
And my bike is SO EASY to ride. It’s not strictly a road bike, the wheels are one notch wider than that, but it’s not like the mountain bikes I used to ride, which are heavy and slow. This thing zips. And the shifter on it is so dope to use. So smooth. I’m really, really, REALLY happy with it. Might even go out again tomorrow. And the best thing today was that it fits inside my car, so I was able to drive down to the bike path and then start riding from right there. I don’t feel comfortable enough to ride on the streets yet. Maybe some day. My helmet is super comfortable, too.
Anyway…I loved it. Like, I got on the path and started riding and was like…“oh, snap…I love this. Like…this could be a thing.” I listened to podcasts and called Liz.
We’ll see if it sticks. I think it might.
Also played a set today. Loved it. Well…loved PLAYING it. The set itself was meh. Too many mixed styles 😜 But, it was the first time I’ve managed to play in a long while.
Now…time to do some reading, and then some sleeping.
