Technology picked a wonderful (and I mean horrible) time to get all fussy. I’m juuuust about done with this work project, and I got totally locked out of my work drive to kick off what I’d hoped would be a very productive afternoon stint. All because my computer wanted to update.
Update bricked. Then I couldn’t log into the computer once it rebooted, even though I’ve never changed my password. I finally figured out it was a corrupted OS install from the update, so I re-installed the OS. That got the computer worked again, but then came the big one…it broke whatever connection I had with my external drive.
Yeah.
The one with my entire project on it.
It didn’t ruin the DRIVE, thankfully. That’s fine. And I can still see and copy all the files over there. But my computer no longer could write to it, meaning I can’t actually USE any of those files. I’d have to copy them over to a new drive first.
So…while I didn’t lose anything, praise Jesus, I can’t USE anything. Not until I get it over onto a new drive (and then wipe and reformat this bricked drive). But I don’t HAVE a new drive. I’m all full. And this is 13TB of data we’re talking about here. Work didn’t have a drive, either. At least, not on hand.
Fuuuuuuuuccckkkkk.
So, my work day came to a stressful, screeching halt. I should be back and up and running at some point tomorrow. Work is ordering me a new drive from a local store, so I can drive over and pick it up. And then it’s a matter of copying over all the shit I need to, which at somewhere between 6-13TB will take a full day, I think…it’s two and a half days of work lost.
All because of an update.
It’s frustrating, but not fatal.
Anyway…how are you? 😂
