So, the win is that I just did a last writing sprint here to finish out the week with 60 written pages. Done. Did it. This little hour before bed of 9:30 to 10:30 was very, very effective. I think I wrote four pages in about 40 minutes. And GOOD pages, too.

I definitely need to find ways to write more at night; it’s always been a very natural creative time for me…when I’m able to sit down and do it. I also REALLY like being chill at night, like unplugged, and I also get very tired around this time. So…it’s a struggle sometimes. But, it worked tonight. It’s a slot I could probably use through the week to make sure I get done what I need to; shore up any shortfalls.

And there’s a loss for the week: I did NOT leave myself enough time to edit and rewrite this week’s pages. Damn. And I HAVE TO do that. There’s already a bunch of stuff, just in these first few chapters, that needs to be fixed. Holes in my outline that I didn’t even know were there. Stuff that needs to be tightened or cut, stuff that needs to be adjusted because I’m not having the characters talk about the right things…now is the time. If I leave it to later, it doesn’t get done right.

So, with that loss, here’s the adjustment: I *have* *to* have my pages done by Friday. Friday can be my slush day, my makeup day, but the weekend has to—HAS TO—be reserved for going over the week’s new pages. No exceptions. If I don’t do that, I won’t get that task done, and I’m going to be very stressed and very unhappy with this book come time to hand it over for editing.

So…dope deadline is Friday. After that, if it wasn’t written, it won’t be. Not until the following week.

Lesson learned.

Night night.
