Fine distinctions are back! We’ve got a good one. Tonight, it’s Porch vs Deck vs Veranda vs Patio. Let’s get into it.
A porch is a covered shelter that projects from a building’s front or rear entrance. Covered. I like that distinction. I think maybe if it’s uncovered, it’s a stoop? The book doesn’t cover that.
A deck is similar to a porch, but is larger, uncovered, and—fascinatingly—always made of wood. Huh. Didn’t know that. Makes sense. It’s also usually in the back.
A veranda is a porch that runs the entire length of a building’s side, and/or wraps all the way around it. And because they’re covered, they’re usually marked by repeating pillars. So…if you cover your wraparound porch, you’ve got yourself a veranda.
A patio is a paved open patch that adjoins a building at ground level. So, basically, it’s lower than the other three.
Good stuff 🙂

You guessed it: busy day. It was a struuuugggggllllleee to get my pages done today. But I did. I also outlined. I did not read. Nor did I get any digging done. Sigh. But work was a little busy, my morning got wonky because of some scheduling stuff, and, well, it was a struggle kind of day. Couldn’t be helped. I’m happy with what I got done.
Coops still on the mend. He’s getting very feisty about wanting his full normal routine, which is a good sign. Kitties are good. Liz found some topical flea and tick stuff that purports to last a month, so we’re going to try that with them. Poor babes are all kinda going through it with the fleas right now, they must be really bad. We’ll see how effective it is. I have high hopes.
Got some win in today. Two bottles I’d been eyeing for quite some time, one from a really famous producer. It’s their “third” wine, meaning two levels down from what really put them on the map…but I’m still excited. I have some other cheaper bottles to go through, too, that I’m looking forward to trying. Gifts, most of them.
Gotta push tomorrow. I need to get substantial reading done. And finish digging the parking space back out. No outlining. Just six more pages. The manuscript will be at 210! And into act three already. In a full Glory book, that would usually be…not even halfway through act two? Getting close, but not quite?
Lots of really fun stuff coming in Glory 6, by the way. I’m surprised at how much I’m really looking forward to. I mean, I always look forward to writing the books I write, genuinely. Why else would I write them? But extra excited about this one. And this prequel novel is really coming together. Lots of twists, lots of turns.
Night night.
