I often get a rush of creative ideas just before bed. I think my most natural creative time is actually at night…but it’s also probably, partly, because I’m tired, which helps the hold-on-tight part of the brain relax a little bit. Hemingway said “write drunk,” and I do get that to a certain degree. While the inner critic is vitally important to becoming a good writer, especially during the re-writing/editing phase…the inner critic never created anything genius or inspired. That takes letting go. So, Hemingway drank. He drank anyway, let’s be 100 about that, but he also drank to let go. I do not. I have no desire to ruin my body and mind like that, nor do I wish to eat buckshot. …but I do empathize.
Back at it tomorrow. Book’s gotta get done. So, this week, we push. Push push push. I can do it. Wish me luck.
