It’s a special kind of grief to lose a pet, because you’re the one who’s supposed to take care of them, keep them safe. It’s analogous to kids, though obviously not the same thing. In many ways, it’s more intense, because they’ll never grow up the way children do. They’re completely dependent on us for their entire lives, and eventually, we’re just not able to keep them safe any more. They will succumb to something, and it’s a particular pain when they do, because we know we’ve failed them.
So, with that in mind, rest easy, Gizmo. I always loved hanging out with you. You were a good pup. The best, as are all the good pups.
Got my pages done. Took a nap. Got my work done. Played some music. Stayed out of the heat. It was a good day. Night night.
