Tis late. But it was a good day. My favorite part was sitting with Liz in the living room at the end of the night and just reading together. I’m almost done with my current non-fiction paperback. It’s been a good read. Not one where I agree with everything, but a book nonetheless that’s given me something to think about on almost every page. I Drink Therefore I Am by Roger Scruton. Predictably, I disagree with a lot of what he says, particularly when he talks about the way he thinks the world should be. But Scruton is at his best when being confessional, and he does a fair amount of that in this book…and his prose is absolutely top-notch (when he’s not being rambly, which does happen at times). It’s been a fascinating book, and I’m glad I have it.
So, that was lovely. Dr. Scruton would have been proud of me, I read while sipping a spectacular glass of Santa Barbara Pinot called “The Mad King.” It was the stuff of legends. The dogs and Liz with me put it over the top into something magical, and just what I needed.
Night night.
