I’ve discovered a new “thing” this year: sipping wine and reading. I really enjoy it. Most wine is made for food…but perhaps not all. I had that idea validated by Roger Scruton’s writing, recently, who argued that all good thinking and conversation was done best over a glass of claret, which is the British term for Bordeaux. I’m sure reading was included amongst the ‘thinking.’ My body is all warm right now from it.

The wine was a claret, actually, so Roger would be proud of me. A 2016 Chateau Giscours, which he mentions explicitly in I Drink Therefore I Am, as did Hugh Johnson in his memoir, so I knew I was in good company. Costco had it on sale the other day. It’s very good. Perhaps not transcendent, like Monte Bello, but layered, soft, and definitely delicious.

It was a tired day. I watched the last Wrexham match, which was a lively affair. I think I might be becoming a real football fan, since it was a 0-0 final score and I came away feeling like it was actually a great game. I got some groceries for the week. Took care of the pups. Hung out a little bit with Liz. Took a nice shower.

Now, sleepy time. Tomorrow, back to work. I have a book to finish.
