Just had a moment of marvel tonight—four days away from 4,700 consecutive journal entries on this site. That’s…pretty amazing. Well over ten years now. It just became second nature at some point.
I used to write so much more than I do now. I think that’s mostly because I’ve gotten used to writing the entries; there’s a rhythm of sorts I’ve fallen into. Brief. What’s top of mind. Not necessarily that I have less to say and more that I’ve made well-worn paths, and the easiest thing is just to follow them.
This journal still holds just as important a place in my day as it always has, however. A check-in. A moment to spill out my brain before going to bed. A chronicle of my history, too, at least for future-me. I don’t forget this way. I always have these entries to come back to.
Writing was tough today. I didn’t hardly do it. Almost a zero day, though not quite. I’ll get after it tomorrow, though. Sigh. Push push push. I’m so close to finishing this second book. So so so close. It’s a good one, I hope. If you’re a reader of the series, I hope you like it. We’re almost there. I have one last sequence to make sure is exciting and logical, and then I’ll be there, ready to write to the end.
I’ve never written a book like this before, still outlining as I close in on the end. Well, that’s not exactly true. I remember, actually, I still had some more detailed outlining to do at the very end of Book 5. But not quite to this extent. This is the second time I’ve had to pause the writing in order to finish the outlining. I…don’t love it? Not in the sense that the writing suffers, per se, but that I do. It stresses me out. I’d rather have it done and ready to go, it’s just a sprint to finish. That’d be great. Sigh. Not to be for this book, however.
Coops got his eye checked today by his eye doctor, but it was just a check-up in the end. We’d thought maybe over the weekend while we were out of town that he may have come down with an issue, but by the time we took him in, he was looking good. Doc confirmed it. No injury. He’s in good shape.
Someday it’s going to make me sad to read that paragraph up there. Coops will be gone, and thinking about him still being with me is going to be hard. He’s healthy today. He’s with me, down at the end of the bed in his ‘Ready For The Snacks’ sweatshirt, falling asleep because he’s had all his meds and all his treats. A happy boy. Getting older, more fragile, but still going strong. He still runs around before bed, excited to get his treats. I remember trying not to take that for granted with Coco, and being so broken all the same. We can’t help but take it for granted. So, I’ll not try so hard to avoid it this time, I guess. I know what’s waiting for me. It’s going to be hard no matter what I do.
Had therapy today. Wrexham tied with Burnley. They’ve already drawn too many games this season, like they did last season. We don’t have our edge, yet. But it will come, I think. We’ve definitely upgraded some of our positions, our wing backs especially. I think a string of wins is coming.
Night night.
